Asiatique The Riverfront – Bangkok, Thailand

When we traveled to Thailand, we budgeted 4 days in Bangkok expecting there to be a great deal to do while we were there. The only thing that Kellin and I enjoyed while in Bangkok was Asiatique The Riverfront. It was a really cool outdoor shopping area that had numerous restaurants, Thai markets, and live entertainment. You could even get pedicures where the fish in the water tank nibble on your toes. I didn’t personally partake in the pedicures, but these salons were a tourist hotspot while we were there.

Kellin and I enjoyed local food and took a ride on the ferris wheel. While we were there, it was Loy Krathong – a day celebrated by the Thai people known as the ‘Festival of Lights’. People bring handmade flower floats, light incense, and send their creations down the river. This is thought to be one of Thailand’s most beautiful celebrations, and it was very special to take part of such a unique tradition. Loy Krathong is typically celebrated around the first week of December each year – just in case you plan to travel during that month.

The Thai people are very proud of their culture and they should be! The live performers at Asiatique don’t do ‘juju on that beat’; instead, they do beautiful choreography to Thai music in bright colored, traditional costumes. I highly recommend sitting in on a performance and taking in the local music. It’s a once in a lifetime experience.

While Bangkok is a must-do when in Thailand, Kellin and I both recommend staying only a day or two in the city. Definitely stop by Asiatique The Riverfront, and use Uber for any transportation needs you have. The cab drivers in Bangkok will drive in circles to run up the meters, so protect yourself and your money by using Uber. This app also helps with the language barrier.
